Sumikko Gurashi Neko

Neko the cat is a lovely and friendly Sumikko. It loves to eat but it cares about its body figure a lot LOL. It likes to stay in the corner because it can keep scratching, just like all the cats do. It is very thoughtful to others that it oftens give way to other Sumikkos to occupy the corner.

How to crochet Sumikko Gurashi Neko?

Materials:

Acrylic Yarn
Light yellow (for body, ear and hand)
Brown (for ear and patches)
Dark Brown (for patches )

Lace Yarn:
Black (for cat whiskers)

Non-Woven Felt Fibre
White and Black (for Nose)

Other accessories:
Safety eyes (2mm)

Crochet Hook:
I used 4/0 here but any hook that fit your yarn would do

Yarn Needle:
for sewing the parts together

Abbreviations (US terms):

  • sl st - slip stitch
  • ch(s) - chain(s)
  • sc - single crochet
  • st - stitch
  • sc inc - 2 single crochet in 1 stitch
  • sc dec - 1 single crochet in 2 stitch

Sumikko Gurashi Neko Amigurumi Pattern Instructions

Neko Body Crochet Pattern:

Round 1:
In Light Yellow yarn, make a Magic Circle with 8sc. Close the circle with sl st. (8st)

In the following rows, start with a sl st and close the round with sl st.

Round 2:
1 sc, 1sc inc in next st. Repeat 3 times. (12st)

Round 3:
1 sc, 1sc inc in next st. Repeat 5 times. (18st)

Round 4:
2 sc, 1sc inc in next st. Repeat 5 times. (24st)

Round 5:
1sc in each st. (24st)

Round 6:
3 sc, 1sc inc in next st. Repeat 5 times. (30st)

Round 7-9:
1sc in each st. (30st)

Round 10:
4 sc in Light Yellow. Attach Dark Brown Yarn and 2 sc. Change back to Light Yellow for the rest of the round. (30st)

Round 11-12:
3 sc in Light Yellow. Change to Dark Brown Yarn and 4 sc. Change to Light Brown Yarn and 3 sc. Change back to Light Yellow for the rest of the round. (30st)

Round 13:
3 sc in Light Yellow. Change to Dark Brown Yarn and 4 sc. Change to Light Brown Yarn and 5 sc. Change back to Light Yellow for the rest of the round. (30st)(30st)

Round 14:
5 sc in Light Yellow. Change to Light Brown Yarn and 7 sc. Change back to Light Yellow for the rest of the round. (30st)

Round 15:
5 sc in Light Yellow. Change to Light Brown Yarn and 7 sc. Change to Light Yellow and 3 sc. Change to Light Brown and 2 sc. Change back to Light Yellow for the rest of the round. (30st)

Round 16-17:
5 sc in Light Yellow. Change to Light Brown Yarn and 7 sc. Change to Light Yellow and 2 sc. Change to Light Brown and 4 sc. Change back to Light Yellow for the rest of the round. (30st)

Round 18:
In Light Yellow, 1 sc, 1sc dec in next st, 3 sc. Change to Light Brown, 1sc dec in next st, 3 sc, 1sc dec in next st. Change to Light Yellow and 3 sc. Change to Light Brown, 1sc dec and 1 sc. Change back to Light Yellow, 2 sc, 1 sc dec, 3 sc, 1sc dec, 2sc.(24st)

Round 19:
In Light Yellow, 1sc dec around the row. Start stuffing.(12st)

Round 20:
1sc dec around the row. Stuff and fasten off. (6st)

The body of Sumikko Gurashi Neko is formed.

  • Change to Dark Brown Yarn for stitch with Dark Brown Circle
  • Change to Brown Yarn for stitch with Brown Circle

Neko Ears and Hands Crochet Pattern:

Make 4 in total. 2 for ears, 2 for hands while 3 of them are in Light Yellow, 1 is in Brown.

Round 1:

Make a Magic Circle. 2 ch, 1dc, 2ch. Close the circle with sl st. 

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing onto the body.

Neko Face Details:

Eyes:
Add some glue on the tip of the safety eyes, and insert at around 7-8 rows.

Whiskers:
In black thread, sew two lines of stitch on 1 and 2 row below the eyes.

Nose:
Cut 1 oval shape in white and 1 tiny circle in black. Use fibre glue to stick them onto the face.
